700 India youths, students to take part in Johanesburg meet

Around 700 leaders from various youth and student organisations will be part of a delegation from India which will participate in the World Festival of Youth and Students to be held in Johanesburg this December.

New Delhi: Around 700 leaders from various
youth and student organisations will be part of a delegation
from India which will participate in the World Festival of
Youth and Students to be held in Johanesburg this December.

The week-long festival will be held in the South African
city from December 13. The theme of the festival is `Let`s
Defeat Imperialism for a World of Peace, Solidarity and
Social Transformation`.

From India, 698 delegates will participate in the
Johannesburg meet.

A meeting was held in the capital last week and Rajeev
Satav, Youth Congress president, has been selected as the
chairman of National Preparatory Committee (NPC) for the
festival, an NPC spokesperson said.

DYFI General Secretary Tapas Sinha and his AIYF
counterpart K Murugan are Coordinators while RYF General
Secretary K Sunnykutty and AIYL General Secretary Sanjay
Bhattacharya are the Joint Convenors of the NPC, which has the
support of 33 youth and students organisations.

The newly-constituted NPC has asked its member
organisations to include youth and student delegates in a
manner so that they could represent the various shades of
India. The NPC has also requested the Central and state
governments to send a representative delegation of young
legislators to the meet.

It has also been decided to organise a National Festival
of Youth and Students in the national capital next month or in
November.
