Hardoi: Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal has once again made a statement against BJP`s prime ministerial candidate for 2014 General Elections, Narendra Modi, which could ruffle a few feathers.
In a dig at Gujarat Chief Minister, he said on Wednesday that a person who used to sell tea can never be nationalist in his views and can never become India`s PM. The SP leader made these comments while addressing a gathering here.
"Narendra Modi says he used to sell tea. He wants to be PM now. A tea vendor can never have a national outlook," Agarwal said, adding, "If a constable is given an SP`s job, his perspective will not change."
On the fact that Modi`s rallies across the country was attracting huge crowds, he said that even street performers are able to draw large crowds.
Hitting back at the SP leader`s comment, BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the secularism syndicate was suffering from the dengue of depression.
Last month too, he had used, what was said to be derogatory language against BJP and Modi. He had compared BJP to a `widow` and said that his thoughts were like a CM and not a PM.
"There is a saying in my village that if you ask a widow`s blessings, she will ask you to become like her. The BJP too is asking everyone to become like them," Agarwal had said. On Modi he commented, "His thoughts are limited as he is a CM of a small state." Also taking a swipe at Modi`s marital status he had said that the Gujarat CM does not know that joy of being in a family.
Meanwhile, reacting to SP leader`s comments, Congress leader Harish Rawat was quoted by a news agency as saying, "Of course a tea-seller can be PM in India but I doubt Modi with his divisive ideology will.
Modi has in rallies after rallies evoked his humble background and told the people as to how as a teenager he used to run a tea stall with his brother and how he used to sell tea in trains.
