Mumbai: Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Tuesday received flak from allies and the opposition alike, over his recent blog posting in which he predicted a non-Congress, non-NDA alliance coming to power after 2014 polls.
The Congress dubbed the blog Advani’s acceptance of defeat.
If the BJP projects Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate, then the allies will also leave the party, a Congress spokesperson said.
Congress’ Salman Khurshid said it was Advani’s point of view and everybody is entitled to free speech.
In his sharp reaction, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said it was akin to conceding defeat "without even entering the boxing ring" and asked the opposition NDA "not to lose heart".
"If Advani has any doubts, he can come to me (Matoshri, Thackeray's residence in Mumbai) and I will give him a dose of morale and strength," Thackeray said in an edit in the party mouthpiece Saamna.
Samajwadi Party leader Mohan Singh said the future is Third Front only. Infighting within the BJP will lead to its debacle, Singh added.
Shiromani Akali Dal’s Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said though the views were Advani’s personal point of view, they could damage the party.
