Lucknow/New Delhi: The UP police on Monday
claimed to have identified the gang involved in the leakage of
AIEEE questions papers in UP and reportedly sold for Rs six
lakh, saying the kingpin is a resident of Jaunpur with base in
Ghaziabad and Mumbai.
One person has been nabbed in Kanpur in connection
with the paper leak and has been brought to Lucknow for
questioning. His identity has not been disclosed. At least
four others have been detained for questioning.
"The leader of the gang, which leaked the All India
Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) paper yesterday is a
native of Jaunpur district with base in Ghaziabad and Mumbai,
where he lived under a pseudonym," Special Director General of
Police Brij Lal told reporters here.
He said other members of the gang were from Sasaram
and Patna in Bihar and Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
"Detailed investigation is being done and names of the
accused are not being disclosed to maintain secrecy," he said.
He also said that assistant secretary of CBSE Karan
Singh Saini has lodged an FIR at Hazratganj police station in
this connection.
UP Special Task Force`s Senior Superintendent of
Police Vijay Prakash said they received a copy of the question
paper on Saturday night.
In Delhi it was announced that the AIEEE re-exam
scheduled for May 8 for students who had to also appear for
Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) test yesterday, would now
be held on May 11.
"The exam would now be held on May 11 as several
entrance exams in the country including entrance test for
selecting candidates for the undergraduate medical, dental and
engineering courses in Karnataka are falling on May 8," said a
HRD Ministry official.
The re-exam, which would be taken by more than 32,000
students, was announced yesterday after the AIEEE exams were
postponed by few hours following leakage of question papers in
Uttar Pradesh.
Students who had to also appear for the AFMC test
could not take one of the AIEEE papers.
CBSE has already announced that the re-exam will be
held at the same centre and the same admit card will be valid.
CBSE, which conducts the AIEEE exams, has in the
meantime announced to set up a three-member enquiry committee
to investigate the incident. The committee will submit its
report within four weeks, CBSE officials said.
AIEEE question papers were leaked in Uttar Pradesh and
reportedly sold for Rs 6 lakh forcing CBSE to postpone the
test by over two hours and provide over 12 lakh students
across the country with fresh set of questions.
