New Delhi: Amid the controversy over Army
Chief`s date of birth, Air Chief Marshal PV Naik has said he
shares a "great synergy" with General VK Singh and has
advised him to do whatever he felt was "right".
"All the three present Services chiefs including Gen VK Singh, Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma and I myself are from
the Hunter squadron in the National Defence Academy and share
a great synergy... I have given him only one advice that do
whatever you feel is right," Naik told a press conference
The outgoing IAF chief was asked that being Gen
Singh`s senior as the Chairman, Chiefs of Staffs Committee,
what advise he had given to him during the controversy.
A controversy had erupted over the Army chief`s date
of birth with service records showing two sets of dates-May
10, 1951, and May 10, 1950 by different branches of the force.
The Adjutant General`s Branch, which is the official
record keeper, has May 10, 1951 as its chief`s date of birth
whereas the Military Secretary Branch shows it to be May 10,
The Defence Ministry has now ruled that May 10, 1950
should only be treated as Gen Singh`s date of birth implying
that now he will retire in May next year.
The Army has also now been asked to change Army
Chief`s date of birth records in all its documents.
