Mumbai: A section of Air India unions Wednesday withdrew its proposed strike call after a conciliation meeting
with the Chief Labour Commissioner in New Delhi.
"The strike notice has been withdrawn with immediate
effect after the union representatives had a conciliation
meeting with the representatives of the Air India management
in the office of the Chief Labour Commissioner in New Delhi,"
a union source said here today.
The source, however, did not divulge other details of
the meeting.
All India Aircraft Engineers Association (AIAEA) and Air
Corporation Employees Union (ACEU), the now derecognised trade
bodies in NACIL (holding company of Air India) had served a
strike notice on May 29 to protest the derecognition and
termination/suspension of its leadership.
The two unions, which went on a flash strike on May 25
to protest what they called a `gag order` issued by the
management barring them from talking to the media, were
derecognised immediately after the Delhi High Court stayed the
strike.
The two-day strike resulted in the cancellation of over
130 flights, affecting over 13,000 passengers, besides a
revenue loss of Rs 10-crore.
Following the court`s stay, the management cracked the
whip on the striking unions by terminating the services of 58
employees including the top leaders of the two unions.
It also withdrew their recognition as a trade union body
and sealed their offices across airports.
