New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Mani
Shankar Aiyar has been chosen as an Honorary Fellow by his
alma mater Trinity Hall, Cambridge University, making him the
first South Asian to be selected for the honour in 50 years.
Aiyar, an MP and former Union minister, was unanimously
chosen by the Board of Governors for this lifetime achievement
The last South Asian to be given the honour was Hajji Sir
Khawaja Nazimuddin, the Nawab of Dhaka, when he became the
Governor General of Pakistan half a century ago.
In the list of other honorary fellows is Geoffrey Howe,
former Deputy Prime Minister of Britain.
Trinity Hall is the fifth-oldest college of Cambridge
University, having been founded in 1350.
