Kolkata: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee
today said all 117 new trains announced by her in the 2009-10
Railway budget would start operation by March 31.
Besides, the extension of service of existing trains as
mentioned in the budget would also come into effect by the end
of this month, she said.
"Most of the new trains announced in 2009 have already
been introduced and the remaining will be flagged off within a
few days," the minister told reporters without elaborating.
Banerjee said special steps were being taken to improve
cleanliness and food quality in trains and promised that
passengers could feel the difference within two to three
months.
In addition to the trains announced in the budget, some
more trains had been flagged off - like the one running from
Jhargram to Midnapore and Purulia, she said.
