Amar demands Nira Radia tapes be made public

Amar Singh demanded that the alleged taped telephonic conversations of Nira Radia, a lobbyist for 2G spectrum firms, with her clients be made public.

New Delhi: Lok Manch leader Amar Singh on Thursday demanded that the alleged taped telephonic conversations of Nira Radia, a lobbyist for 2G spectrum firms, with her clients be made public.

The former Samajwadi Party leader said, "My conversation (in the telephone tapping case) was mostly personal in nature. If Nira Radia tapes are also of that nature, then it should never be published. Because no body has the right to peep into anyone`s personal life or hear any private conversation of anyone."

Singh, however, said, "But if they (Nira Radia tapes) concern economic deals...about procuring deals as alleged, then the tapes should be made public."
Referring to the issue of corruption, he said, "In the wake of the stormy session of Parliament, corruption has come out as a major issue. Two prominent industrialists of the country have spoken about corruption - Rahul Bajaj as well as Ratan Tata.

"Tata has gone to the extent of claiming that Rs 15 crore was asked as bribe by a civil aviation minister of that period. Since he did not pay that is why he could not start the airline," he told reporters outside Parliament.
