New Delhi: The condition of the renal transplant of Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, which had deteoriated some days back following urinary tract infection, has shown some signs of improvement, an AIIMS doctor said on Tuesday.

"His condition is stable and his renal parameters have shown some signs of improvement. His urine culture report of today is better than the previous one but the urinary tract infection remains," Dr Sanjay Gupta, associate professor of the nephrology in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), who is looking after his case, said.

"He has told me today that he is feeling better now," Gupta said.

Admitted in the new private ward of AIIMS, Singh, 55, was shifted from Tihar jail on the night of September 12 after his creatinine level rose and was immediately put under medical observation.

He was lodged in the jail on September 6 after a Delhi court had sent him on 14-day judicial custody following his arrest in connection with the 2008 cash-for-votes scam.

After investigations, doctors found Escherichia coli, a type of bacteria, to be the cause of the urinary tract infection suffered by Singh who had undergone a kidney transplant surgery in Singapore in July 2009.

"Till his infection is cured, we cannot say anything about when we will be discharing him from the hospital," Gupta said.
