Anna supporters granted bail in Dubai

Dubai: Five Anna Hazare supporters who were jailed here last month for violating the national security laws of the UAE by organising an illegal protest march have been granted bail.

The Public Prosecution in Dubai granted bail to the five Indians yesterday.

The Indian nationals were held by Dubai Police for organising a walk to support the anti-corruption movement without obtaining permission from the local authorities.

Their first request for bail was rejected on August 25 as the Public Prosecution cited that the investigations into the case had not been complete.

Hashik T K, the lawyer who represented three of the accused, said, "All of them have secured bail. We are finishing the paper works for their release."

The accused had to spend nine more days behind bars since all government offices including the courts were closed due to Eid holidays that ended yesterday.

The Indians were detained after one of them organised a 3km walk in Al Mamzar Beach Park on August 21 to express solidarity with social activist Hazare who was on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi demanding a strong Jan Lokpal bill.

The man had mobilised public support for the walk through Facebook.

Middle East is not a place for such activities. Moreover Indians should understand from the past experience - when some Keralaites were arrested for staging a drama.

The organisers should have shown respect to the local UAE laws. Even in India, prior permission is required for organising any such gathering. So, i dont understand, why the organisers did not seek permission and in case the permission is not granted by UAE authorities, the march should not have been held at all. Showing disrespect to the local laws is not at all acceptable to any body.
