Jaipur: Close on the heels of Ruchika Girhotra's 19-year-old molestation case making waves, another episode in which a top cop allegedly raped a tribal woman 13 years ago but has not been brought to justice has surfaced in Rajasthan.

The victim, hailing from Rajasthan's Dausa district, who was allegedly abducted and raped by an IPS officer, today sat on a dharna here along with her family members and Independent MP Kirori Lal Meena after she was not allowed to meet Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot at his residence.

Around 50 people led by the MP are on the dharna at civil line railway crossing demanding justice for the victim.

"Gehlot had given us appointment for the morning, but the police officer on duty at the CM's residence denied us entry," the victim's husband Khyali Ram Meena told reporters here.

The woman was allegedly abducted and taken to Noida in Uttar Pradesh in January 1997 where she was allegedly raped by former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Madhukar Tandon, then posted in police headquarters and is now said to be absconding.

State Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal said that the event took place some years ago and the government will find out why the official was not arrested and whether he is alive or dead. The government will go into the matter, he said.

Khyali, who was a police constable, registered a case against the IPS officer with a police station in Noida and subsequently with Bandikui police station in Dausa.

"After that, I was continuously harassed by senior police officers and pressurised to withdraw the case. At that time I was posted in police lines Jaipur. They harassed me to such a limit that I was forced to leave the job in 2002," Khyali said.

"Since then I have been seeking justice and have written to the Home Minister, the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister," he said.

Police said they had submitted the chargesheet in the case against Tandon, but by then he had absconded and was later declared a fugitive.

MP Meena said that the dharna would continue till Gehlot meets the woman.

It is good to see Indian justice system and Govt. has decided to punish DGP Rathore and other such police officers who committed similar crimes or tried to suppress evidence to help the criminals. It is good to see the media raise voice for the victims and force Govt. to act and punish the guilty. Now the media should also try to raise voice for hundreds of women gang raped in the 1984 masscare in Delhi. The media and the general public can raise voice for one victim girl Ruchika then how can the same media and general public can`t demand justice for these 1984 victim ladies. The media and general public should raise voice for these 1984 victims and force Indian justice system and Govt.to punish the guilty criminals and police officers who either helped the mobs or closed their eyes and failed to perform their jobs. The 1984 innocent victims have been waiting for 25 years for the Indian justice system, Govt. and Media to act and punish the guilty people involved in the 1984 masscare and crimes.
