Ansari today called upon to adopt positive approach towards
leprosy patients and stressed on the need to bring them in to
Ansari was speaking while presenting International Gandhi
awards on behalf of Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation at
Sewagram in neighbouring Wardha district, about 80 km near
Leprosy is being treated for last 2000 years and still it
could not be eradicated, Ansari said, adding that only a few
patients get cured for lack of knowledge about its treatment.
It is still spreading in Bihar, Chattisgarh and Union
Territory of Dadra Nagar Haveli, he said.
Recalling contribution of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi,
Ansari said Gandhiji had done tremendous work and studied
medical and social aspects of the leprosy patients and made
efforts to bring them to main stream.
Dr Vijay Pannikar and Vidarbha Maharogi Sewa Mandal (NGO
working for leprosy patients) were presented with the awards,
which carried Rs two lakh cash, citation and a memento.
