Arms pilferage: CRPF asstt commandant suspended

An Assistant Commandant of CRPF has been suspended for his alleged role in pilferage of arms and ammunition which possibly could have landed into the hands of criminal outfits and Naxals, a senior CRPF officer said.



Rampur: An Assistant Commandant of CRPF has been suspended for his alleged role in pilferage of arms and ammunition which possibly could have landed into the hands of criminal outfits and Naxals, a senior CRPF officer said.

Assistant Commandant of CRPF J K Mishra has been suspended for allegedly failing to maintain Central Weaponry store of CRPF here resulting in disappearance of huge quantity of live cartridges recently, Deputy Inspector General CRPF Lucknow range Manoj Kumar Dubey said yesterday.

A Court of Inquiry has also been ordered against him, he added.

Two havildars, posted at CWS, were also suspended and sent to jail for their alleged involvement in the theft of ammunition.

On April 30, the STF had arrested five security personnel and a retired sub-inspector following inputs that a large quantity of cartridges were being smuggled out of the
CRPF group centre at Rampur via a source in Allahabad to various criminal gangs and possibly Naxals.

Over 5,000 live cartridges, 16 magazines of INSAS rifles, .25 bore guns, SLR and AK-47s had been recovered besides 245 kg of empty shells following raids at various
places.
