Army Chief on 3-day visit to Eastern Command
Army Chief General V K Singh on Monday embarked on a 3-day visit of the Eastern Command and some forward areas to review the operational readiness.
New Delhi: Army Chief General V K Singh on Monday
embarked on a 3-day visit of the Eastern Command and some
forward areas to review the operational readiness of the
forces based along the borders with China.
Gen Singh, who began his review with a visit to the
Eastern Command based in Kolkatta, is expected to also visit
Dinjan military station in the Dibrugarh district of Assam,
army officials said here.
Apart from getting a low down on the Eastern Command`s
readiness in the sensitive borders with China and other
neighbouring countries on the eastern front, the Army Chief
would also get a first hand feel of the preparedness of forces
under the Army`s 4 Corps.
Gen Singh, who was till recently the Eastern Army
Commander before taking over as the Army Chief, will be
accompanied on the visit to the forward areas by the current
Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Bikram Singh.
Dinjam also has a World War-II vintage airfield and is
closer to Assam`s borders with Arunachal Pradesh.
