New Delhi: Army chiefs of over 30 countries of the Asia-Pacific region will discuss humanitarian assistance and disaster relief at a conference of Pacific Armies' Commanders to be co-hosted by the US at Tokyo next week.

Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor will attend the three-day brainstorming session and during his visit he is likely to have a one-on-one meeting with the chiefs of armies from 31 countries in the region.

Though Pakistan and China are invitees to the Sixth PACC beginning on August 24, sources refused to confirm whether the two countries would be attending the biennial event or not or if Gen Kapoor would be meeting the army chiefs of the two Asian neighbours.

The last PACC meeting took place in Sydney in 2007 in which Gen Kapoor had attended in his capacity as Vice Chief, they added.

PAC conferences were started to foster military-to-military cooperation, develop interpersonal relationships and contribute to regional dialogue and stability between countries operating in the Asia-Pacific region.
