Ahmedabad: An army man and his relative have been arrested in Kutch district by the Gujarat anti terrorist squad (ATS) on charges of spying and passing on Indian Army's confidential documents to Pakistan-based intelligence agencies, ATS officials said on Thursday.

Ibrahim Sama, recruited through the Military Engineering Service (MES), and his maternal uncle Osmaan Sama were arrested yesterday from Bhuj in Kutch, which has borders with Pakistan, on charges of spying and criminal conspiracy to disturb internal security, they said.

Confidential and sensitive documents of the Indian Army and some phone numbers of their Pakistani contacts, were recovered during searches conducted in the duo's houses, the officials said.

Both were produced before a local court in Bhuj, which sent them to nine-day police custody for further interrogation, they added.

The officials said that the ATS had received a tip-off that Sama used to get secret and confidential documents from the Army as he had an access to its base in Bhuj.

He used to send the confidential documents to his uncle Osmaan of Nana Dinara village in Bhuj, with the objective to pass it on to Pakistani intelligence agencies, they said.

Both have been booked under various sections of Official Secrets Act of illegal possession of confidential Army documents, and section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the ATS officials said.

we live in nation which is often boasted itself as a largest democracy, we now need to exibit tolerance, must refrain from making irresponsible comments, india is nation where people of various faiths have lived together for time immemorial, that is the esssnce of india(hindustan).

in our nation men from the islam faith have faired as well as men from other religions, they have been honest, patriotic & gallant. president abdul kalam, president fakhruddin ali ahmed, soldier abdul hamid pvc & many of their likes.

men who have done treason with the motherland & its people must be punished by death, reagrdless of their relegion.

law must prevail.

why rope in the army when someone`s uncle is involved? this way the army will be involved any and every time someone commits a crime. in india we have close relations in all walks of life. let us leave the army alone to do its job and not drag it in every controversy, real or unreal.

the law needs changing. confiscate all their properties and minimum sentence should 18 years
maximum should be life with no parole application
for 15 years.

any one arrested must have their case heard within 120days by a special court.

there are more thakurs and brahmins who have been selling state secrets as far as i know.
