It is a matter of pride that 24 Medium Regiment, Artillery, erstwhile 24 Mountain Regimen Artillery (Pack) is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee, having been raised in 1935. The glorious chapter of the achievements of this Regiment is during World war II during Burma operations when legendary Hav Umrao Singh,s gun position was attacked by the advancing Japenese troops. His associate gunners havin being killed and the ammunition already exhusted, Hav Umrao Singh single- handedly in a hand to hand fight had killed the assauling Japenese soldiers. Thus he had saved his artillery gun. Badly wounded, Hav Umrao singh ws lying unconscious when he was spotted by his senior British Artillery officer who had recommended highest gallantry award, Victoria Cross for Hav Umrao Singh. Umrao singh was rushed to Military Hospital where after the treatment, he was back in his Regiment. The Medium Regiment is proud of this highest decoration during war.
