New Delhi: Amid reports that he may be arrested for his alleged nexus with the mining lobby, Jaganmohan Reddy, Tuesday, appeared concerned about the prospect while categorically asserting that he will not rejoin the Congress.

Speaking to a news channel, the Kadapa MP said that he is in the ‘Opposition’ and those who are acting against him are in power at the Centre, as well as in Andhra Pradesh.

While hoping that things would not come to a point where he is arrested, Jagan said, “If so happens, let that injustice be also be seen by God…God will teach them a lesson.”

Son of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy, Jagan, has been under the scanner for his association with the mining baron G Janardhana Reddy, who is under arrest under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

“My father campaigned against Bellary brothers,” Jagan said, adding that there is no link between Janardhana Reddy and his party and that CBI has not proved any nexus.

As per reports, the CBI has incriminating evidence linking Jagan with the Reddy brothers of Bellary. The CBI is on Jagan’s trail on orders of the High Court which had asked the investigating agency to probe his assets.

His arrest could come as early as this week itself - before the end of the Parliament Session on September 8- as the CBI can then avoid seeking permission of the Lok Sabha Speaker for the same.

Cleary, Jagan has reasons to worry and hence he is in the national capital to meet all important Opposition leaders and seek their support against the alleged witch-hunt launched by the
Congress on him.

During the interview, when he was asked about his apparent growing closeness with the BJP, after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj backed him in the Parliament, Jagan said, “I have lot of respect for Sushma Swaraj, the same Congress party in which my father served for 30 years, tainted him. Sushma Swaraj, against whom my father fought 30 years, has come in support against injustice.”

“As far as politics is concerned, BJP stands for a different ideology; we stand for a different ideology. Never would we tie up with the BJP…mark this word, we are giving the word to the entire community, we will never tie-up with the BJP.”

“As far as Congress party is concerned, it is ruling we are in the Opposition. If God so blesses us with the numbers then we have told a many a times that we have no qualms…our interest is in the state. We will ask for agriculture ministry from a UPA like government,” he added.

Jagan also rubbished that he has become rich overnight and that he was helped by his father in furthering his business interests.

“There has to be a violation in place. If at all the govt had done any favour there should be in place rule and that should have been grossly violated to favour somebody. Only if the rule is violated then only you can say that somebody was benefitted on a quid-pro-quo basis.”
