Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that his government has asked the Centre to ensure that any dam related activities by China in Tibet do not cause ecological problems in the state.

He was speaking at the Ali-Aye Ligang festival organised by the All Guwahati Mising Kebang here, an official statement said.

"The chief minister informed the audience that he has raised the issue of flood and erosion in the Brahmaputra river with the Prime Minister and related central ministries. He said that if the problems could be addressed, then communities residing in the catchment areas of the river would benefit," the statement said.

Gogoi also said that the state government is committed to holding elections to the Mising Autonomous Council and said the Council has been established for the welfare of Mising community.

He said work on the North East Cultural Centre is going on at full swing.
