Mysore: South Western Railways on Thursday stole a
march over its sister zonal railways in launching an audio and
video system in non-Shatabdi express trains.
South Western Railway General Manager Kuldip Chaturvedi
inaugurated the on board audio-video infotainment system in
Chamunmdi Express that runs between Mysore and Bangalore.
Divisional Manager B B Verma said under the facility each
bogie will have colour LCD screens and audio systems through
which music albums and films of all languages including
educative wild life documentary films will be shown.
The train is fitted with Global Positioning System
(GPS) which will display information about the location of the
train, arrival and departure timings and the speed at which
the train is running both in the train and platforms for the
benefit of passengers.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Anup Dayanand Sadhu
said this system will be extended to the Tipu Express
(Mysore-Bangalore) Bangalore-Dharwad Inter-city Express and
Bangalore-Shimoga Express, during the project`s second phase.
Sadhu said at present this facility exists in Shatabdi
train plying between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
