Ayodhya not a political platform for BJP: Jaswant

New Delhi: Days after BJP president Rajnath Singh endorsed the VHP on the Ayodhya issue saying his party is committed to the construction of the Ram temple, senior party leader Jaswant Singh has opined against the propensity to use the issue as the party’s electoral platform.

In an interview to an English news channel, Singh said, “The BJP has to reflect the future, it must think about the future…”

On Rajnath Singh’s declaration on Ayodhya, Singh said that what the BJP president said appears to be his personal endorsement; political endorsement will come only when it will come from the party.

“I don’t think BJP should adopt this (Ayodhya) at this moment. If it has sufficient numbers in Parliament, then it can do it…I don’t think the BJP ought to make it a political platform to win elections,” he said.

“Ayodhya is something that the two communities must sit together and resolve or the the court should resolve it. I don’t see any third way,” Singh stressed.

Rajnath Singh had on Wednesday made the declaration on Ayodhya, moments after former VHP chief Ashok Singhal bragged about the demolition of Babri masjid in the early 1990s during the campaign for construction of Ram temple.

"BJP is a party which believes in Hindu values. The party is committed to the construction of Ram temple at Ram Janamboomi in Ayodhya. It is a cherished desire of millions of Hindus and the BJP would certainly like to do its bit in fulfilling the same," Singh said.

He was participating in a meeting of the VHP's central advisory committee here in presence of its top leaders like Singhal and Pravin Togadia and party colleagues Yogi Adityanath and Laxmikant Vajpayee.

The best solution to Ram Mandir issue is - to build brand new bigger Mosque with Babri Mosque stone/bricks away from present site. Muslims should be happy that their Mosque is restored in better fashion. The area so cleared be used for Hindu/Jain temples.

Jaswant Singh Ji is absolutely right - we have enough of temples and our aastha is always there but temple is not a major or a single most important issue confronting this country - we need to tackle them first

I endorse the view point of Mr. Jaswant Singh. BJP should not try to play political game with RAM and Ayodhya. RAM and AYODHYA are not their family property to play such game. Each and every true Hindu should understand that there is a vast difference between a religion and a political party. A religion means, it closes two different persons together, but a political party means, it separate two close persons. When you given them a chance, you don`t forget that they had created a full of chaos in this country and terrorists even came upto the capital of Delhi and upto our Parliament, which we consider as our holy temple of this country. Now if you give one more chance, they will not hesitate to give entire country including the Hindu women and Childen to the neighbours like Pakistan and China for whatever manner they want to play with your sisters, mothers, daughters, kids, etc. Now it is the discretion of the people of this country and they may decide what to do.

I think Shri.Yashavant Singh is very correct when he says that at this point of time BJP should not go for Ayodya as it may backfire. They should have sufficient numbers,as Shri Yashavant Singh says and then only they talk about the Ayodya. At present, BJP should talk and highlight India`s developmental aspect as Shri Narendra Modi did recently in New Delhi. This way they can increase their vote share and can think of coming back to power at the Centre.M.J.SUBRAMANYAM
