New Delhi: Worried over the adulteration of essential items following the murder of a senior official in Maharashtra, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday said he would write to chief ministers of all states on ways to control adulteration of food items.

Expressing shock at the incident, Azad told reporters
here, he would write to the CMs in the next couple of days
suggesting ways to control food adulteration.

Yashwant Sonawane, Additional Collector of Malegaon,
was returning from Chandrar village after reviewing the
situation there in the wake of a demonstration by onion
farmers when he found some people adulterating kerosene in a
tanker parked behind Sagar Dhaba at Panewadi.

Sonawane stopped and questioned them. He also called
up police. This prompted Shinde and three others to pour
kerosene on the official and set him afire. He died on
the spot.
