New Delhi: He may prove to be the much needed breath of fresh air. Yoga Guru Ramdev on Tuesday announced his organisation will fight the next General Election on the plank of cleansing the system.
"Next Lok Sabha elections will have candidates from Bharat Swabhimaan contesting elections in all 542 Lok Sabha seats," said Baba Ramdev.
He said he would enrol lakhs of members in every constituency and they would act as a corrective force in the society.
In the next three years, "we will name the new party", he
said.
"Through Bharat Swabhiman we are trying to increase our
membership. These members on a district basis will elect a
candidate for the elections. We will announce the name of the
party and candidates before the elections. But I will not
stand for elections personally," he said.
He said he will not fight the election as he was not after power.
"Laws will change and politics will change after our
entry," he said noting that the country faces many challenges.
"More than 50 per cent people in the country are
illiterate. About 40 crore people sleep hungry. More than 200
districts are under the grip of Naxalism. There is a need for
change and that is why we have started this Bharat Swabhiman.
"The challenges also include regionalism and terrorism.
Laws should be strict to deal with issues like terrorism and
rape," Ramdev said adding that he stands for bringing back the
black money stashed away in tax havens.
"We will use the money brought from abroad for the
development of the country. After we bring back the amount, we
will be the economic superpower next to the US," he added.
Appreciating the Congress party for their long rule, he said the party had also got more responsibility on its shoulders.
Speaking on a gamut of issues, the yoga guru slammed BSP chief Mayawati for accepting the huge garland of Rs 1000 notes yesterday in Lucknow.
"Country's wealth should be used for the welfare of
Dalits and the poor and should not be used for making garlands
for decorating materialist politicians," he said.
"My comment is for materialistic people, who consider
themselves materialistic and instead of spending wealth for
the welfare of the poor and Dalits, spend it on themselves,"
Ramdev said adding that his remarks were not aimed at the UP
CM.
He said he was a supporter of women’s reservation but the seats should be 50% and not just 33%.
“Women are no less talented than men,” he said.
He also said that the convicts who re awarded the death sentence for heinous crime should not be eligible for the President’s apology.
"If the incumbent union government does not change its policy to initiate sincere steps to curb corruption, I would field candidates in the next parliamentary elections and I believe that the common people would elect the appropriate person," Ramdev said in Tripura on Sunday.
