Barbed wire along the unfenced stretch of Bangla border soon

About 39 km stretch of the Indo-Bangla border has no barbed wire fencing in South Dinajpur district, according to official figures.

Balurghat (WB): About 39 km stretch of
the Indo-Bangla border has no barbed wire fencing in South
Dinajpur district, according to official figures.

However, barbed wire was being put up along the
unfenced stretch and the process will be completed soon, BSF
DIG (Malda sector) Prabhat Singh Tomar said.
The security agencies were keeping strict vigil along
the entire 252 km stretch of the Bangladesh border in the
district particularly in the run up to the Independence day,
Tomar said.

Superintendent of Police Swapan Banerjee said special
vigil was being kept all over the district for independence
day celebrations.
Villagers at Gosainpur, Srirampur and Jamalpur border
hamlets said they were feeling insecure living along the
unfenced stretch.
