Batla issue: Uma asks Sonia to give clarification

Uma Bharati asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi to clarify the nation whether she had wept on Batla encounter issue or not.

Banda (UP): Firebrand BJP leader Uma Bharati on Monday asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi to clarify the
nation whether she had wept on Batla encounter issue or not.

"It is a sensitive issue and Gandhi should clarify to the
nation whether she wept or not...I wept for policeman MC
Sharma who died in the encounter," she told an election
meeting here.

She was reacting to Law Minister Salman Khurshid`s claim
that Batla House encounter picture brought tears into the eyes
of Gandhi.

Addressing an election meeting in Azamgarh on Thursday,
Khurshid had said the pictures of the Batla encounter brought
tears into the eyes of his party president, who asked him not
to show her the pictures.

However, party general secretary in-charge of Uttar
Pradesh Digvijay Singh had rebutted Khurshid`s claim, saying,
"Sonia never cried. These are Salman Khurshid`s words."

Khurshid also later clarified saying what he actually
meant was that Gandhi had become "emotional" at seeing those
photographs.
