New Delhi: A Bengali daily which had carried
an advertisement featuring Mamata Banerjee sporting a rubber
slipper, has tendered an unconditional apology to the Railway
minister after an FIR was lodged against it.

Sangbad Pratidin newspaper also claimed that the ad was
carried out with no financial gains in mind but to "celebrate
political achievements" of Mamata.

An apology letter has also been written by the shoe
manufacturer Ajanta to the Railways.

The full page advertisement that showed Mamata wearing
rubber slippers manufactured by Ajanta, was published in June
21 edition of the daily.
Railways had lodged an FIR on June 22 against the shoe
manufacturer for allegedly putting out the ad without her
permission.

Sources close to Mamata said both the letters have been
sent to the Parliament Street police station where the FIR was
lodged.

The advertisement had upset Mamata as it seemed that it
was "aimed at pecuniary gains by exploiting Mamata`s image",
sources said.
