Mumbai: Prime Minister of Bermuda Ewart
Brown has said Bermuda is keen to strengthen ties with Indian
business fraternity, especially in the financial sector and to
promote tourism in Bermuda.
Brown, on a visit to the city met the Governor of
Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan here yesterday.
The visiting Prime Minister told the Governor that
recession had hit tourism, the second most important industry
in Bermuda, the country located off the east coast of the
United States, adversely. He said the purpose of his visit was
to participate in the Outbound Travel Mart’s Tourism
Conference being held in Mumbai and to meet business leaders
in the city.
He told the Governor that Bermuda is interested in
signing a comprehensive Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement with India, and in that connection he is scheduled to meet the union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as well, a Raj Bhawan spokesperson said.
Extending a warm welcome to the Prime Minister and his
wife Wanda Henton Brown,the Governor conveyed his appreciation
for the Prime Minister’s participation in business interactive
meetings in India.
The Governor expressed the hope that bilateral
relations between India and Bermuda will be further
strengthened by Brown's visit.
