Bihar university teachers to go on strike from tomorrow
University teachers in Bihar will launch an indefinite strike from tomorrow to press for their 21-point demand.
Patna: University teachers in Bihar will
launch an indefinite strike from tomorrow to press for their
21-point demand, including clipping administrative powers of
the state Human Resources Development Department (HRD) to
meddle into the universities affairs.
Prof Dilip Kumar Sinha and Prof Sanjay Kumar Singh,
the conveners of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) set up by the
teachers association said here today that the indefinite
strike has been called to press for various demands, including
protection of the autonomy of the universities.
The agitating teachers will not resume works till the
state government accept their 21-point demands, they said.
The JAC conveners duo also questioned the state
government`s commitment to implement the recently-announced
UGC pay scale for the university teachers and employees even
as the old wages till March this year has not not been paid.
Meanwhile, a group of younger teachers under the
banner of `Young Teachers` Forum of Universities have decided
against joining the teachers` strike from tomorrow saying that
the agitation was uncalled for as the state government was
committed to hear out the grievances of the teachers.
The state government has fulfilled its promise to pay
the UGC pay scale to the university teachers and promised to
address other demands, the forum`s convener Manoj Kumar said
in a statement here.
