New Delhi: Promising the Indian diaspora
better governance and transparency, the Government today said
it was making a provision to ensure "no tainted" person
becomes a member of the higher judiciary in the country.
Addressing the eighth Pravasi Bhartiya Divas here, Law
Minister Veerappa Moily said Government was making sincere
efforts to make "level of rule of law in India one of the best
in the world".
"We are making sincere efforts to improve our governance.
To ensure reform in judicial system, we are bringing in the
Judges Standard and Accountability Bill which will ensure that
not a single tainted person becomes part of the higher
courts," Moily said.
The minister called upon the NRIs and PIOs to invest more
in India and become part of the country's growth story. "The
reform in governance and judicial system will also benefit the
diaspora."
Government was also planning to set up commercial courts
to settle commercial issues at a minimum possible time frame.
"You can expect resolution of any sort of commercial dispute
in a maximumm time frame of five to six months," he said.
Listing initiatives by his Ministry to improve dispute
redressal mechanism, he said Government was also making
efforts to make "India the preferred destination for
international arbritation."
"India is on a trajectory of change and within two to
three years, the picture will be totally changed," he said.
