New Delhi: Opposing the Centre`s move to set
up National Counter Terrorism Centre, BJD member B Mahtab
today said in the Lok Sabha that the Centre`s efforts to curb
the menace of terrorism will not succeed, if it does not take
states into confidence.
Participating in a debate on the Motion of Thanks on the
President`s Address, he said the move to set up the
anti-terror body without consulting the states amounted to
"encroaching upon" its authority.
"Centre`s counter terrorism strategy can not succeed, if
the state is not taken on board," Mahtab said.
Describing the Centre`s move as an "ill conceived idea",
he said all talk about the NCTC has weakened the fight
against terrorism.
Blaming the Government for not passing the Lokpal Bill in
the Rajya Sabha during the Winter Session, he demanded that a
new Lokpal Bill should be brought and a model Lokayukta bill
be circulated to the states.
N S V Chitthan (Cong) said Tamil Nadu is facing severe
power crisis and the commissioning of the Kudankulam Nuclear
Power Project will help solve the problem.
He asked the Government to take a "concrete step" to
complete the project.
Chittan asked the Government to support the UN resolution
condemning alleged war crimes during the last phases of Sri
Lanka`s three-decade-old civil war in 2009.
