BJP attacks Chidambaram on his comments on price rise

BJP alleged that there were fissures within the Congress as party leaders speak in different voices on the same issue.

New Delhi: BJP on Wednesday alleged that Home
Minister P Chidambaram`s statement on price rise has exposed
fissures in the Union Cabinet and the Congress, whose leaders
and ministers speak in different voices on the same issue.

"P Chidambaram was removed from the post of Finance
Minister and moved to the Home Ministry. He says price rise is
a tax on the people.

"Congress is only paying lip service on the issue of
price rise. Chidambaram`s inner conflict shows the differences
in the Cabinet," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told
reporters here.

He took a dig at Chidambaram, saying he was the first
Home Minister to comment on price rise.

BJP alleged that there were fissures within the
Congress as party leaders speak in different voices on the
same issue.

"Congress is divided on all issues. Digvijay Singh
says something while Janardhan Dwivedi says something else on
the same issue. Chidambaram is perhaps thinking he could have
done something about price rise had he been the Finance
Minister today," Hussain said.

He said Pranab Mukherjee comments that had the Prime
Minister sought his advice he would not have suggested that
the he make an offer to appear before the Public Accounts
Committee shows Manmohan Singh has no control over his
cabinet.

"That the Prime Minister`s offer was rejected by the
Finance Minister shows that he has no control over his
Cabinet," Hussain said.

On media reports that Chidambaram had in a letter
warned the Prime Minister about possibility of anomalies
taking place in 2G Spectrum allocation, Hussain said this
reinforces the BJP stand that only a JPC can probe all aspects
of the scam.

"Only a JPC can ask for these letters to be presented
and summon the people concerned," Hussain said.
