New Delhi: Congress on Sunday saw "BJP conspiracy" in Ramdev's supporters throwing black ink on Sonia Gandhi's poster outside the AICC headquarters and accused the Opposition party of resorting to such "desperate" tactics on seeing its "certain defeat" in polls in five states.

"...prima facie, the facts that are here make it clear that it is the handiwork of our political opponents including not only BJP but also the other peripheral elements, which are trying to promote BJP's agenda.

"It's clear that our political opponents have lost cool and become desperate as they have no confusion about their imminent defeat in the Assembly polls in the five states but they should have fought politically not this way," party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here.

He was reacting at the AICC briefing soon after a group of protesters sloganeering in favour of Ramdev shouted slogans against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Digvijay Singh after throwing black ink on the Congress President's poster outside the party headquarters.

"This is a very unfortunate conspiracy," Singhvi said accusing the BJP of doing "cheap politics" out of "utter frustration" and thereby undermining democratic polity.

He said Congress has seen far bigger forces in the past trying in far more obstructive manner to do such things but the party has always emerged successful.

Some people under the banner of Yuva Bharat Kisan Panchayat gathered outside the Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road to protest the recent attack on yoga guru Ramdev here and threw ink on Sonia's poster.

On Saturday, Kamran Siddiqui, who runs an NGO, had thrown black ink on Ramdev during a press conference when the yoga guru evaded his question on Batla House encounter.

There`s a very big difference in throwing ink to a livid person or throwing it to a picture. Should the ink thrown on Ramdev have contained poison, then it was a murder attempt. I advise Baba Ramdev to have the ink examined on its contents. Who says it didn`t contain some slow-killing poison? On the other hand, even if one throws poison or acid at a picture, the person is not harmed. Besides, all parties should unanimously condemn these throwings and leave it to that. Certainly not try to politice it.
