BJP brainstorms on Lokpal move
Top BJP leaders are meeting to chalk out a strategy and assess the ground situation ahead of the Lokpal debate in Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
New Delhi: With the Congress-led UPA government preparing itself for an intense debate on the Lokpal Bill in Rajya Sabha, the main opposition BJP also went into a huddle on Thursday to chalk out strategies and assess ground situation on the same.
Reports, Thursday, claimed that BJP high command had convened a meeting ahead of the tabling of the Lokpal Bill in Rajya Sabha, which is being attended by its seniors leaders.
The main opposition party, which opposed the Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha earlier and several provisions of the Lokpal Bill, is mulling to move 21 amendments in the Upper House today.
The party remains confident that the Lokpal Bill will not be passed by the Rajya Sabha as the ruling Congress party does not enjoy comfortable majority in the Upper House.
The opposition party has also charged the Congress government for betraying the people of the country on the issue of bringing a strong Lokpal Bill.
Slamming the Congress for bringing a weak Lokpal Bill, the party says that its amendments will plug the loopholes existing in the present legislation.
