Thiruvananthapuram: Taking a dig at LK Advani's yatra, CPI-M General Secretary Prakash Karat has alleged both the BJP and Congress were in the same league when it came to corruption.

He said Advani should have started his yatra from Bellary which had become the symbol of 'unholy nexus' between politicians and trade, apparently referring to the illegal mining in the mineral rich district in BJP-ruled Karnataka.

Inaugurating the new building of 'Chintha Publishers' owned by CPI-M here last evening, Karat said BJP and Congress were in the same league when it came to corruption.

Both the parties were indulging in 'shadow boxing' over corruption and looting the resources of the country, he alleged.

"The BJP had charted the course of corruption in the 2G spectrum scam and nobody had forgotten the foul play by the previous NDA Government in defence deals. Congress had followed the same path and created a record of sorts in corruption," he charged.

Karat said the neo-liberal economic policies of the Centre had resulted in the rampant corruption the country was witnessing now. Everything including minerals, land and water was being looted, he said.
