BJP holds dharnas in AP against govt`s excise policy

The party, which organised dharnas in front of divisional
excise offices in various districts, warned to intensify its
agitation if government continued its policy to encourage sale
and consumption of liquor.
In the state capital here, about 400 party activists
including leaders were taken into preventive custody when they
staged dharna in front of Excise Commissioner`s office.
Former union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, state party
leaders including general secretary N Ramachander Rao, Greater
Hyderabad BJP President B Venkat Reddy, Mahila Morcha former
president T Vijayalakshi and secretary Arunjyoti and Anjan
Kumar among those arrested.
Earlier, addressing the gathering, Dattatreya said," it
was unfortunate that the state government is totally dependent
on liquor sales for its revenue".
He demanded Rosaiah government to convene an all party
meeting to discuss in details about excise policy.
