New Delhi: Top BJP leaders from across the country will converge here on Saturday for a day-long meeting of the party`s national council to ratify the appointment of party President Amit Shah.

The session, to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, will start with Shah`s ratification as new party chief and conclude with Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s address.

The national council will also adopt a political resolution that will focus on the political and economic issues as well as the initiatives taken by the BJP-led NDA government and its roadmap ahead.

This is the first meeting of the party`s national council after BJP`s victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

"This is the first national council meeting after the party`s grand success in the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting will adopt a resolution that will include political and economic issues as also achievements of the new government and its roadmap ahead," BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.

The resolution will include various decisions taken by the BJP-led government and the steps to be taken by it in the time to come.

He said all top BJP central leaders and over 2,000 party leaders from across the county will participate, besides chief ministers and ministers in BJP-ruled states and opposition leaders or CLP leaders in states where BJP is not in power.

BJP national executive members as also presidents of the party`s state units and BJP general secretaries and heads of various morchas and fronts in states and at the central level will also participate in the national council session.

Party patriarch L K Advani will also address. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and other leaders of the party will also take part in the deliberations.

Senior BJP leaders led by Naqvi along with party general
secretary J P Nadda and others today reviewed the arrangements at the Nehru stadium today.

Shah had taken over as BJP chief on July 9 after Rajnath Singh resigned from the post soon after his joining the Narendra Modi cabinet.

Though BJP`s parliamentary board, the highest decision- making forum of the party, approved the appointment of Shah, the move has to be ratified by the party`s national council, as per the party`s constitution.

Shah is credited with scripting BJP`s stunning victory in key state of Uttar Pradesh in Lok Sabha elections that helped BJP get an absolute majority of its own and was rewarded with party chief`s post.

50-year-old Shah, the closest aide of PM Modi, was unanimously appointed to the top party post in BJP at its parliamentary board meeting on July 9.

After the ratification of his appointment, Shah will form his new team that will lead the party.
Sources say the new team will include a number of young leaders as the party wants to focus on strengthening the bond with voters and the common man while preparing for coming assembly elections in various states.

The national council meeting has been organized in Delhi in view of the ongoing parliament session that is expected to end on August 14.
