New Delhi: Congress on Saturday dubbed as
ridiculous the objection raised by BJP over the nomination of
Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar to the Rajya Sabha.
"Their (BJP's) objection is ridiculous as Aiyar has a
multi-faceted personality. He is not only a politician but
also a social worker, a former career diplomat and an author
par excellence having written a number of books," Congress
leader Shakeel Ahmad said.
Backing the decision of the government, Ahmed said before
criticising Aiyar, BJP leaders should read his books to
realise that the stature of Aiyar is not only of a politician
but also of an academician as well.
The BJP had earlier termed as misuse of power by the
government Rajya Sabha nomination to Aiyar and said it was
against the spirit of the Constitution.
Aiyar had lost the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and is one of
the five people nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the
government, others being lyricist Javed Akhtar, educationist
Balchandra Mungekar, actress-dancer B Jayashree and
anthropologist Ram Dayal Munda.
