Jaipur/ New Delhi: BJP on Tuesday alleged the Rajasthan government's awarding contracts to a firm, in which the son of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot works, has brought corruption in the state government to public domain while the Congress backed him saying it has accepted his explanation on the issue.

Reacting to a media report on the Gehlot government favouring a private firm with contracts, the leader of the opposition Vasundhara Raje charged that "the fact that the state government is corrupt is now in public domain".

"Those in the state government were levelling allegations of corruption against us but now their own cases of corruption are coming into light," Raje said at a public meeting in Anta town in Baran district.

"If the state government has worked with honesty, it should reveal that where the fund meant for development has gone because no developmental work is seen anywhere in the state. Now people have understood who is honest and who is corrupt," the former chief minister said.

Gehlot, meanwhile, has rejected the allegation of favouring the firm where his son works as a legal consultant.

"I never favoured anyone in any reference. The allegation that the firm, where my son works, was given undue benefits is baseless. This is a beginning of allegations, there may be some other allegations also," he said.

In New Delhi, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said, "You heard the Chief Minister himself clarifying the matter. If anything is culpable that can always be brought in public domain. He has given his clarification and we are satisfied with it at the moment."
