New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, said on Monday that the UPA had not done anything in its second tenure for the formation of Telangana and had brought the bill in the House only in Parliament`s last session.
The senior BJP leader said the in 2004 Congress had fought elections with TRS and had promised that they would work for Telangana, ANI reported. “However they finished the tenure without acting on it,” she said, adding, “UPA in its second tenure also didn`t do anything for formation of Telangana. They brought the bill in Parliament`s last session.”
She also said that the Congress had wanted the BJP to reject the Telangana Bill amidst uproar, so that they could blame them for non-passage of the bill. “Their game-plan was spoiled when we supported the bill,” she said.
“Congress ignored my point on constitutional flaw in the bill,” she added.
Swaraj also slammed Congress leader Kamal Nath of accusing the BJP of playing a double-game and said that it was the Parliamentary Affairs Minster of playing double-games. “
“Their motive was just to introduce bill, put it for consideration and passing, not to pass it ,” said the BJP leader, adding, “Congress is a divided house. It is clearly visible.”
She maintained that the BJP was united on the formation of Telangana.
The Telangana Bill was passed by Lok Sabha today with voting on clauses of the bill taken up amid pandemonium. Live telecast of the proceedings was not allowed.
Ignoring the protests against the division of Andhra Pradesh, the government today moved the controversial Telangana Bill for consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha.
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde moved the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill 2014 for consideration in the House. He moved the bill in spite of the fact that ministers and MPs from Seemandhra region were in the Well opposing division of the state.
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar clarified that it was due to a technical glitch that the proceedings of the house during the debate on the Telangana Bill could not be telecast live. A probe has been ordered into the TV blackout by the Lok Sabha secretary general.
But Swaraj, refuted the claim and said that it was not true. She posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter - “They say that the black out of Lok Sabha was due to a `technical glitch`. No. It was a tactical glitch.”
