New Delhi: A pall of gloom descended at the
Palam airport here as 24 bodies of slain CRPF jawans were
flown into the national capital, a day after the worst-ever
naxal attack left 75 personnel of the paramilitary force dead.

About 200 troops of the force-- headquartered in the
national capital-- along with senior officers of the CRPF were
present at the Palam Technical airport to receive the bodies,
draped in tri-colour, which were brought in an Airforce AN-32
aircraft.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal `Nishank`
led the officers and other dignitaries in placing wreaths on
the bodies of CRPF men killed in the Maoist attack in
Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

Air Vice Marshal R Sitaraman and CRPF Additional Director
General (headquarters) J C Dabas laid the wreaths on behalf of
the respective organisations.

Earlier, the buglers sounded the last post and reversed
their weapons in respect of the martyrs.

The bodies will now be sent to neighbouring states of
Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttrakhand by road.

"The state should use all the options available in its
hand to tackle the menace of naxalism. The entire country is
together. We are ready to provide the central government
whatever help they need from us. The naxals should be tackled
with full strength," Nishank said.

Chairman of All-India Anti Terrorist Front M S Bitta who
was also present said "if Chidambaram would have been the Home
Minister six years ago, this would not have happened. The
policy against terrorism is still not strong. To tackle this
menace we should adopt the Punjab policy of war against
terrorism".

Meanwhile, bodies of another 25 CRPF jawans killed in the
ambush were brought to Lucknow by a special aircraft.
