New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Thursday foiled an infiltration attempt by Pakistan troops in the Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports, the infiltration bid was made from the Pakistan side of the border at Poonch sector around 5.30 am this morning, which was foiled by the vigilant BSF jawans.
The BSF troopers guarding the Ballad Border Post noticed some movement around in the wee hours and opened fire to challenge a group of people trying to infiltrate across the border into India.
"Our troops opened fire to challenge them. The firing went on from 5.10 am to 5.35 am," the official said.
The infiltrators were pushed back into Pakistani territory and an extensive search operation was launched for any person who might have sneaked in, the official said.
The fresh infiltration bid comes three days after five Indian soldiers were killed by the Pakistan troops, which triggered a national outrage.
Defence Minister AK Antony, who made a contradictory statement on the incident earlier, made a fresh statement in Parliament today, blaming the Pakistan troops for the attack on Indian soldiers apparently under the Opposition pressure.
