BSP claims three seats in by-polls, RLD bags one

Lucknow: In a major boost to the ruling BSP in Uttar Pradesh, it won three out of the four Assembly seats which went to bypolls while the Ajit Singh-led RLD tasted victory on lone seat.
BSP wrested Malihabad and Bidhuna seats from the Samajwadi Party besides Moradabad-west seat from the BJP.

Samajwadi Party fared badly and failed to open its account while Rashtriya Lok Dal retained the Morena seat.

Interestingly, the winners from these four seats in the last assembly elections had defected to the BSP and subsequently resigned from the Assembly which necessitated
these bypolls.

With these wins, BSP`s strength in the 403 member Vidhan Sabha has gone up to 218 while the RLD touched the double figure mark by increasing its tally to 10.

SP has 88 members while BJP and Congress have 48 and 19 members respectively in the state Assembly.
