New Delhi: The government on Wednesday approved a
draft agreement with Bangladesh which provides for transfer of
sentenced persons.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh, gave its approval to the agreement which will
facilitate transfer of each others' wanted persons.
The treaty will be signed when Bangladesh Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina visits India next month.
When the agreement is signed, Bangladesh is expected to be
hand over ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia who has been
in a Bangladesh jail since 1997 after completing his sentence.
The draft was finalised during the three-day meeting of
Home Secretaries of India and Bangladesh early this month.
