Can CBI probe CWG report leak, asks CAG

New Delhi: With details of its report on
Commonwealth Games leaked in a section of media, Comptroller
and Auditor General has written to the Union Law Ministry
asking whether the CBI could probe the leaks.

Law Minister Salman Khurshid said today that the CAG, in a
letter to him last week, had sought advise on avoiding repeat
of such incidents and wanted to know whether a CBI probe could
be ordered to find out how details of its report appeared in
the media before it was tabled in Parliament.

"The CAG is also concerned. The CAG has written to the Law
Ministry and sought to know what action it can take against
the leakage of report," Khurshid said.

In its letter, the auditor has told the government that it
was engaged in performing very important tasks and wanted to
find out how its reports appear in the media before being
tabled in Parliament, he said.

Khurshid said the government auditor wanted to know its
rights and responsibilities in this regard and what action it
should take.

"Officials are examining the letter," he said when asked
whether he had replied to the CAG.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal had last week sought to know what
action the CAG had taken in connection with the leakage of its
reports on the preparations for the CWG.
