New Delhi: Congress on Monday said that the
probe into the money laundering case registered against
Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh by the Uttar Pradesh police
should be held as per proceedings of law.

"Congress has one principle...The proceedings of law
should go on in a natural way...We are not concerned with an
individual case," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told
reporters here.

The statement comes a few days after AICC General
Secretary in-charge of UP Digvijay Singh said that it appeared
that the Mayawati government was targeting the SP leader.

Underlining the need for the case to proceed without
any discrimination, Singhvi said, "this case is between the UP
government and different agencies but law of the country
should prevail".

After the case was lodged, the Congress leader had
said, "I am not aware of the details of the case but what I
have gathered is that it has been filed on a private complaint
... At the first look, it does look like a case of political
vendetta."

Singh said the administration in UP had been very
quick in lodging the FIR against Amar Singh and others on
receiving the complaint.
