New Delhi: Faced with RSS opposition and
division within the party on the issue of caste-based census,
BJP on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh convene
an all-party meeting to decide on the ticklish matter.

"We have already spoken in Parliament about our views on
inclusion of caste in census. But after the Prime Minister`s
statement yesterday on the issue there is some confusion. We
demand that Prime Minister should call an all-party meeting to
elicit their opinion and then take a decision," BJP
spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Sources maintained that there is a division within BJP
ranks over inclusion of caste as the RSS is opposed to it. RSS
leader Suresh Joshi stated this on Sunday, saying inclusion of
caste would lead to divisions in society.

RSS stands for a nationalist ideology and views the
country as one nation with no divisions on basis of caste.

However, BJP had categorically stated in Parliament that
it wanted inclusion of caste. Party MPs Ananth Kumar and
Gopinath Munde (also BJP`s OBC face) had argued for this
during the debate on the issue.
BJP now seems to be adopting an ambiguous stand to keep
the RSS in good humour, they said.
