Nagpur: About 50 companies of central security forces will be deployed to deal with naxal menace in the poll-bound Gadchiroli district in which 17 policemen were killed recently in an ambush by Maoists.

"The administration has acquired helicopters and
stationed them at Gadchiorli, Aheri and Nagpur to assist the polling machinery to conduct free elections," District Collector and Returning Officer, Atul Patne, told a news agency.

About 50 companies of central security forces are being
deployed for the October 13 Maharashtra assembly elections,
Manoj Sharma, Additional SP Gadchiroli, told a news agency.

He said after the killings of 17 policemen at Laheri in
Bhamragarh taluka of Gadchiroli district, additional forces of
CRPF were requisitioned.

These para military forces were airlifted from Jharkhand
by special IAF transport aircraft to the city and special
arrangements were made to transport them to Gadchiroli
district from Nagpur, police said.

The district administration is leaving no stone unturned
to ensure security for the polling day. The CRPF jawans will
be posted at all the sensitive zones.
