Ajmer: Union Minister Sachin Pilot on Monday asserted that there was no interference of the Central government in facilitating release of then Union Carbide CEO Warren Anderson after the Bhopal gas tragedy.

"The Central government did not interfere in the matter of Warren Anderson," he told reporters here.

The Congress leader said the decision to allow Anderson to leave Bhopal was taken by the then Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh.

He said that as per the situation that time, Singh had taken the "right decision".

Without going into further details, Pilot said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has constituted a Group of Ministers headed by Home Minister P Chidambaram to go into the matter.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated a foot-over-bridge built at a cost of Rs 83 lakhs near the railway station here. He also distributed "patta" (lease) of newly constructed houses under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission.
