Centre not interested in controlling price rise: Nitish

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today charged the Centre with not initiating proper measures to arrest the price rise of essential commodities in the state.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today
charged the Centre with not initiating proper measures to
arrest the price rise of essential commodities in the state.

Holding the Centre responsible for the "unprecedented"
price rise of essential commodities including pulses and
edible oils, Kumar said instead of admitting the follies of
the Centre in controlling the price rise, the Centre was
shifting the reason behind the price rise on state
governments.

The Centre should convene meeting of state governments to
control the prices of essential commodities, Kumar told
reporters on the sidelines of his favourite Janata Darbar here.

If the prices of essential commodities were not
controlled, the Congress party would face the wrath of the
people in the upcoming assembly elections in the state, Kumar
said and added that his party would organise dharna and
demonstration to protest the price rise across the country on
February 10, 2010.

Kumar said the Centre`s figure of 65 lakh families living
below the poverty line was far behind the truth and said
according to survey conducted by the state government over
1.40 crore families were living below poverty line (BPL) in
the state
